Remix or Rip Off

Ever listen to a song and think it sounds very familiar? Sometimes it is bass lines, lyrics, or melodies that make us feel like we have heard a song before, despite knowing we have never listened to it. This is becoming more common with modern technology nowadays. In this post, we will dive into the example of this in “Good Times” by Chic and “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang. Photo by Technodean2000. An example of this is the bass line in “Good Times” by Chic, which is copied to create “Rapper’s Delight” by The SugarHill Gang. Although The Sugarhill Gang did not use the exact recording since they played it live, “Rapper’s Delight” copied the pitch, rhythm, and harmony of the “Good Times” bass line. This makes the bass line nearly identical despite not being directly copied. The Sugarhill Gang transformed the original song by performing it live, changing the structure of the song, and using an alternative style of music. The Serial Podcast Made Me Rethink Memory

Through our lives, we experience many different things, making it hard to remember them all. After listening to the first episode of the Serial podcast titled “The Alibi” hosted by Sarah Koenig, it became clear how much this can affect us. In this episode, Boenig does a deep dive into the 1999 murder case of Hae Min Lee. The main evidence against Adnan Syed was his accomplice's interview, in which he told the police Adnan had killed her and that he had seen her dead in his trunk. Boeing ends up finding a girl who said she saw Adnan Syed in the public library at the time the Hae Min Lee murder had taken place. This girl wrote letters to Adnan Syde after he was arrested, telling him she, along with her boyfriend and his best friend, had seen him at the library. Why I Beleive All University Programs Should Require Grade 12 University English

University programs all have prerequisite high school courses. One of these is almost, if not always grade 12 university level English in Ontario undergraduate program . I believe this is a great requirement for all university programs. There are many different ways we use skills we learn in English class in different subjects.  Photo by toruto1234 English class teaches me how to read and write effectively. Being able to analyze text and produce forms of literature is key in learning. Getting proficient in all forms of communication will improve academic success.  University can get busy and not wasting time is something I would need to figure out in order to find a good balance. The last thing I would want to be stressed about is making sure I can clearly communicate with my peers and professors.  Whether I am learning about math, science, business or English it is important to be able to comprehend readings and communicate to others.
